Privacy Policy
Effective July 2, 2026
OBLYT LLC (“OBLYT,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) operates Gydepoint, a mobile application that provides outdoor intelligence for hunting, fishing, foraging, camping, backpacking, and off-road/overland travel — including location scoring, public-land and terrain map layers, route and trip planning, and outdoor forecasts. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Gydepoint is built with restraint. We collect only what we need to make the product work and to improve it.
Information we collect
Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address and an encrypted password. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the identifier that provider gives us, and — only if you grant it — your name and email.
Profile photo. If you choose to set a profile picture, the image is stored on your device and, if you enable Cloud Sync, in your account. Setting one is optional.
Saved spots and trips. Spots, routes, and trips you save are stored on your device and, if you enable Cloud Sync, in your account so they are available across your devices.
Device information. We collect basic device metadata (operating system, app version, device model) to diagnose problems and understand performance.
Usage analytics. We collect aggregated, non-identifying information about how the app is used (which features are opened, error rates, session lengths) to improve the product.
Location information
Location is central to an outdoor-mapping app, so we are specific about how it is used:
Maps and your position. The app shows your position on the map while you use it. Your live position stays on your device.
On-foot tracker. If you turn on the on-foot tracker, the app records your trail — including in the background, so you can navigate back to your vehicle — and stores that trail on your device only. It is never uploaded.
Routing. When you tap “Navigate” to route to a spot, your current location is sent to our mapping provider (Mapbox) to generate directions. It is not used to identify you.
Hunt Mode verification. When you start a Hunt Mode session, we read your device location once and compare it to the broad zone you tagged. We store only the result (within-zone / outside-zone / unavailable); your exact coordinates are not saved or transmitted.
Optional community counts. If you leave the “contribute saved spots to community counts” setting on, we store a coarse, approximate cell (about 110 meters) of a spot you save so we can show other users an anonymous total of how many people saved it. We never store your exact pin, never reveal who saved a spot, and never share your live location. You can turn this off at any time in Data Preferences.
Apart from that consent-based case, we do not transmit your precise location, and never without your action.
How we use information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the app and its scoring, mapping, and planning features.
- To create and secure your account and sync your saved data if you enable Cloud Sync.
- To diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and understand aggregate usage.
- To communicate with you about the service, and — only if you opt in — about new features.
Service providers and third parties
We share limited information with providers that help us operate the app. Each is bound by its own privacy terms and may use the data only to provide services to us:
- Supabase — hosts our backend and stores account data.
- Mapbox — provides maps and, when you request directions, routing. Receives your IP address, the visible map area, and (only when you tap Navigate) your current location.
- RevenueCat — manages subscriptions and entitlements.
- Apple and Google — provide sign-in and process in-app purchases.
- Cloudflare and DigitalOcean — provide content delivery and hosting infrastructure.
The app also displays information derived from public and licensed data sources (including USGS, LANDFIRE, the National Weather Service, GBIF, and iNaturalist). Browsing these map layers does not send those sources your personal information.
We do not sell your personal information.
Subscriptions
Gydepoint offers an optional paid subscription (“Pro”) sold through the Apple App Store and managed with RevenueCat. Payment is handled by Apple; we do not receive or store your payment card details. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store account settings.
Data retention and security
We keep account data for as long as your account is active. We use industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. No system is perfectly secure; if you suspect a security issue, contact us at general@oblyt.com.
Your choices and rights
You can review and edit your profile in the app, turn community contribution on or off in Data Preferences, and delete your account from within the app, which removes your account data. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information. To exercise these rights, email general@oblyt.com.
California residents. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law. You may request access to or deletion of your information using the contact below.
Children
Gydepoint is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above.
